Early in July 2010 work started on a new watering system for our main pitch and will be in use from 11th September.
|
- The club appointed contractors PS & DE Graham, Irrigation Engineers from Leicestershire to undertake the installation.
- The system comprises of 6 Komet Twin 101 rain guns mounted on risers around the pitch.
- These guns are installed outside the playing area, on the dug out side they come through the perimeter fence on 4” risers mounted on swan necks and on the clubhouse side they are set in the tarmac path outside the spectator fence on 3” risers.
- The guns deliver a cycle of 1mm of water over the playing area (approx 6m3 of water) in 6 minutes with the corner guns operating for 40 seconds each and the half way guns 80/100 seconds each. This allows for two passes with each rain gun to ensure uniform watering.
- A klaxon will sound at the start of the watering cycle from the kiosk housing the 18.5kw pump and main control system next to the water tank located between our two pitches.
|
|
- The watering system will operate from a remote start/stop control box in the officials dug out at pitch side. The water tank holds 8250 gallons of water.
- The club is investing in excess of £80,000 in this state of the art watering system.
- The watering system will primarily be used for men’s 1XI, 2XI & 2A XI and ladies’ 1XI. The carpet will retain the water and will obviously benefit the other teams playing at home on matchdays.
- All these games should only require watering at the start of the game although the men’s first team may need half time watering as well if temperatures are high.
- The carpet from Team Sports in Australia was the first of its type in Europe when installed 4 years ago and is a wet/dry surface that will play superbly when wet for our teams in the club.
- Our contractors have extensive experience in this type of installation having previously done sites such as Tonbridge School, National Sports Centre, Bowden and Cannock clubs to name but a few.
