Holcombe had won all their matches and Blackheath had won all but one match; so there was everything to play for.

The team shown in the picture opposite contested the final match.
Deb Gurr, Lisa Parker, Sarah Wellings, Lou Hayes, Beth Hayes, Carmel Sutton, Lenny Hoyte and Deirdre Holbrook were all regular members of the squad this summer but for various reasons (mostly holidays) could not make the final match.

Blackheath needed a win for the championship and went 1-0 ahead after 20 minutes of the second half. Holcombe, staring at their first defeat in this league in over 2 years, did not give up. A superb individual effort 3 minutes from time from Lauren Osborn gave Holcombe a well-deserved draw and the top spot for the second year running.

Even though registration has closed with Greenacre SSP for our Summer Camp, we are still taking registrations as a club.

Holcombe Hockey Summer Camp
Monday 9th - Thursday 12th August
10am - 2.30pm
Years 3 - 9
£20 (you must be able to attend all four days)
Please wear appropriate clothing, footwear, shinpads and a mouthguard.  You must bring your own lunch and refreshments with you.

If you are interested in attending the Summer Camp, please send the following information to Lawrie O'Keeffe (hockeygb @ hotmail. co. uk - please remove spaces) and attend on Monday 9th August with a cheque for £20 made payable to Holcombe Hockey Club.  A consent form will also need to be signed on the first day by a parent or guardian.

He played for Rochester and Gillingham until he was 18 when he gave up hockey to join the Merchant Navy. After a break of 17 years he rejoined Rochester and Gillingham and when the merger of Old Holcombeans, Templers and R & G took place in 2000 he started to play for Holcombe Hockey Club.

Mike played for the South of England O’55 team at Chelmsford in May where he won a Silver Medal. In June, the England O’55 trials were held at Reading and Mike was selected for the England Squad to play in the Home International Tournament in Swansea which England won.

Mike played in all four games and scored two goals against Wales

Robin started playing hockey at the age of 25 for Old Holcombians HC when he moved to the area to work for the company now known as BAE Systems. Primarily a lower eleven player, he has played regularly for the club ever since. 25 years after he started, at the age of 50, he played for the Kent Veterans XI. In 2010 he was selected to play for the South of England in the Over 50's Master Tournament in Nottingham. Robin played in all 5 games.

The Final was contested  with England South West. The match was drawn, and by mutual consent the Trophy was shared by these two Regions this year.

For the third successive year Lawrie was selected to represent England South at the annual Regional Tournament played at Cannock HC in May, and collected a Gold Medal for his efforts.
