OHGS - Report on Westerham 7 May
May 11, 2004 - 01:00
First society meeting of the summer proved an enjoyable day with the weather giving us a nice window of a dry, balmy day. The course was pretty damp however and quite soggy in places, just like the golf as it turns out. Andy Carney was lucky to survive an assault by Keith Martin whilst thinking he was safe in the trees and 90 degrees to KM's right. How foolish, Keith hooked into the trees and Andy, lucky he's a vertically challenged lad, ducked not once but 3 times as the ball was to ricochet off every tree around him! Neil South with the whole gallery looking on played his approach shot to the green beautifully, trouble was it was to the 18th and not the 9th!!! 'Dickhead' of the day went to Brian Long who on the same approach shot as Neil, slightly over clubbed and put his shot onto the Clubhouse balcony sending members scurring for cover. His ball rebounded eventually off the balcony onto the path and down onto the fringe of the green, remakable skill!! Overall winner: Mick Russell 50 Points U18 H/c winner: Jon Russell 49 Points O18 H/c winner: Bob Martin 46 Points Nearest the pin :Neil McClaren Longest Drive: Gill Griffiths Off the 'Tarts' Tee some 120 yds further down the fairway!!!
