Volunteer at Medway Mile 2019?

Holcombe Hockey Club has secured the England Hockey Panna Pitch for the Medway Mile 2019. The panna pitch will be situated inside the Rochester Castle Grounds as part of the sporting activities on offer to Medway Mile runners and families.

The Medway Mile on Friday 19 July 2019 is Medway's largest mass-participation event with 3000 runners taking part in the event, and with up to 4000 in attendance during evening. The audience is primarily families.

Volunteers are required to represent and promote Holcombe HC through manning the panna pitch and allowing children to 'have-a-go' at Hockey. No coaching experience required, just a smile and willingness to promote our club to the general public. The panna pitch will only have two players in it at each time, equipment will be provided, and volunteers are needed to ensure a queueing system is in place, players are timed within the activity, rules and play is appropriate, equipment is passed between players, and information about Holcombe HC is distributed etc.

The programme of events is as follows:

  • 5.00pm           Event opens
  • 5.30pm           Children’s races
  • 6.30pm           The official mascot race
  • 6.45pm           Exhibition ride for National Circuit Championships
  • 7.00pm           Competitive adult race (16+)
  • 7.30pm           Mass participation warm up
  • 7.45pm           The Medway Mile 2019 - All activities will close during this period
  • 8.15pm           Activities reopen
  • 8.45pm           Event Celebrations
  • 9.30pm           Fireworks finale

Volunteers need to ensure the activity is running between 1700-1945 and then again 2015-2130. Ideally 2-3 volunteers will man the panna pitch at all times. If enough volunteers step forward, then a rota can be worked out i.e. 90 minutes shift pattern. Volunteers are more than welcome to stay after and watch the fireworks finale.

Please do get in touch if you are willing to volunteer at the Medway Mile 2019, and let me know how long you are able to support for. Thank you in advance.

Many thanks Jon Rye (Club Chairman)
