EHL KO16 draw - Anticipation rising as HC Rotterdam prepares for Easter festival of hockey

With European club hockey making the transition from indoors back outdoors for the spring, the Euro Hockey League KO16 at HC Rotterdam when 16 of the world's best club teams enter the KO16 knock-out phase of the competition.
The Dutch club will host four days of action with 16 matches ties, featuring eight national champions, three former EHL champions, and up to 6,000 fans each day at the famous Rotterdam stadium.

There are highlights galore on the agenda. On Friday, March 30, the 2016 champions SV Kampong will meet the 2017 winners KTHC Rot-Weiss Koln, the two clubs facing off in the knock-out stages for a third successive year. Rot-Weiss will be aiming to win an indoor-outdoor double following their EuroHockey Indoor Club Cup success in Switzerland on Sunday.

That battle follows three potential crackers with England's Holcombe making their first KO16 appearance against the experienced Real Club de Polo. Royal Herakles make their debut against Atletic Terrassa while Racing Club de Bruxelles will hope to go one better than their indoor exploits and win EHL gold, continuing their journey against Russian number ones Dinamo Kazan.

Super Saturday has a belter of a tie on the cards when home hosts HC Rotterdam face German champions Mannheimer HC while KHC Dragons against HC Bloemendaal is a contest between two of the EHL's most decorated clubs.

Irish side Three Rock Rovers make their return to the EHL after nine years away and will face ROUND1 surprise package Saint Germain. Racing Club de France take on another ROUND1 qualifier, Uhlenhorst Mulheim, looking to back up their run to the KO8 last season.

The KO16 will see the first EHL knock-out games to feature the new scoring system as part of a trial for the 2017-18 season, a move designed to encourage more open, attacking hockey, moving the emphasis away from penalty corners (click here to read more on the new rules).

Tickets are selling fast with the potential for match days to sell out in a similar fashion to last season's KO16 in Eindhoven. You can book your place at the event via www.ehlhockey.tv/tickets.
