RIP Chris Swan

The club received some very sad news earlier this week; Chris Swan sadly died after a short illness last Saturday. A tall, fair headed slim speedy player, Chris was an out and out right wing in Old Holcombeians 1XI for many years in the 1960s & 1970s.

Chris played alongside John Lambkin, Mick Willis, Keith Chapman, Dick Tremain, Ken Poulton, Maurice May, Evan Lewis, Arthur Regan, Keith Martin and Colin Twitchen, and regularly umpired by Bill Stock.

After his playing days at Holcombe, Chris' career took him to South London where he quickly became involved with Bromley HC and was instrumental in their Junior Coaching programme with both of his sons taking up the sport. He and his wife Sandra always stayed in touch with the club and attended many of our veteran players lunches.

He was a gentle man, quietly spoken but an exciting talent out on the wing and a prolific goal scorer for the club. Chris served both Holcombe and Bromley with great enthusiasm and dedication and will be sadly missed. Our condolences are extended to Sandra and his family.

A minutes silence will be observed on Saturday 7 October before the Men's 1XI v Sevenoaks match.

Many thanks Keith Martin (President), Norman Pickett (Treasurer) and Graham Robertson (Life Member)
