L'Ump Month

In 2018 Wapping Hockey Club started what they called L’Ump Month, and they are pushing it further afield this season. It is an initiative to raise awareness of Breast Cancer (in men and women) and to raise funds for the charity.

So what can we do?

Throughout October, can umpires consider whether they can wear pink tops to umpire in, taking pictures of when you do and we can spread through social media, @Lumpmonth on twitter.  Consider contributing some of your expenses (pool umpires).

Players, dig out spare change, or add a small amount to your match fee if playing, with perhaps more if you receive a green or yellow card for dissent, or do a team collection.

If a coach or supporter is caught complaining about umpiring decisions, a fine by way of contribution towards the charity could be made.

Whilst raising funds is crucial for any charity, raising awareness is just as important.  If you don’t have a pink top, these can be ordered here and you can have your initials embroidered on the top.  £3 from each order goes to the charity.
