Holcombe Park 20yrs old

Today is the 20th anniversary of the official opening Holcombe Park, on 5 April 1998. The official opening was performed by John Lambkin, who remains the longest serving current member of our club.  The welcome on the day from our Chairman is noted below, along with an image of the newspaper article and an image of our 'Clubmen of the Year 1998' - the project team to fulfil the ambitious Holcombe Park dream.

I would like to thank the original project team and the volunteers who built Holcombe Park; the volunteers who have helped to manage Holcombe Park over the past twenty years; and the volunteers who will continue to develop Holcombe Park over the next twenty years.

Many thanks Jon Rye (Co-Chairman)

A WELCOME FROM OUR CHAIRMAN

As current chairman of Old Holcombeians Hockey Club, I would like to welcome you all to the official opening of our new Sports Complex.

The club have been planning a move to incorporate an all-weather playing surface for five years and initially it was necessary to seek a site. With the assistance of Chatham Grammar School for Boys it was agreed to develop their playing fields at Rochester Airport North.

To achieve our aim it has been a requirement to obtain funding from various sources including the English Sports Council, the National Lottery, the Foundation of Sports & the Arts, Rochester-Upon-Medway City Council and the School themselves. The balance of the monies required have come from private donations, members loans and gifts from within the club.

We now have a facility of which we are very proud and is the platform for our ultimate aim, the eventual elevation to National League Hockey. We hope that with our new premises we will be able to follow the path le by Canterbury who were themselves a Regional League side not that long ago.

Today's event will take the form of four celebration games involving club sides, the school and our friends from local clubs. In keeping with previous tradition our Official Opening will be performed by our longest serving current member who is an example to us all with his dedication to the club.

I sincerely hope that you all enjoy the day and that I will have the pleasure of seeing you all at future club events.

Chairman
