EHCT VOL Spotlight Rutger

An opportunity for us to shine the spotlight on a number of our EuroHockey Club Trophy Volunteers...

Rutger, The Netherlands

Rutger is a 22-year-old from Delft, The Netherlands who has been playing hockey since he was 5 years old. He is currently studying for his Civil Engineering degree whilst he continues to be involved in the sport he loves, playing as a midfielder and recently getting into umpiring matches.

When Rutger attended the EuroHockey 2017 Championships in Amsterdam and saw the volunteers in their bright green shirts, he knew he wanted to start volunteering at hockey events. When he got home, Rutger applied to volunteer at the Women's World Cup 2018 in London. Initially he was assigned to spectator services, but when he was offered the chance to be Team Liaison Officer for the Belgian Hockey Team, he jumped at the opportunity. Being a volunteer at the World Cup was an amazing experience for Rutger - he even managed to swap shirts with one of the Belgian team members (as pictured).

As soon as Rutger received an email from England Hockey about volunteering to help us deliver the EuroHockey Club Trophy 2019 at Holcombe Park, he immediately applied! Rutger will be travelling from Amsterdam for his first ever visit to Kent and we look forward to welcoming him as one of our Team Liaison Officers.
