Auction for Christopher Parkes

Message from Rotherham Hockey Club

The silent auction has been set up for Chris who is currently continuing his rehabilitation at STEPS in Sheffield.

In July last year, Chris Parke was involved in a sporting accident which has resulted in Chris being severely disabled. He is currently progressing towards making is his long journey towards some form of independence. Extensive medical assistance is needed to further this progress and as a Club we would like to support Chris and his family at this difficult time.

A great many items have been donated to this auction, yours included. The auction goes live on Monday 9 September 2019 at 0700, and runs until 2100 on 24 October 2019. All monies raised from the auction and justgiving site will go towards supporting Chris and his family by providing additional aids as and when required.

It is hoped that we raise substantial funds and that we would like to announce this upcoming event on the Yorkshire Hockey and England websites alongside our own social media platform and website outlets. It’s important we acknowledge the work that Jon Bray has done in obtaining a substantial amount of items for this auction.

As a club, our thanks must go to all the clubs (including Holcombe Hockey Club) who have very kindly donated items and I have explained to Chris that we intend to contact the individual clubs concerned. In addition, I have also stressed that we must recognise the work of Barry Middleton and George Pinner of GB/England Hockey fame. Chris and his family have been overwhelmed by the support offered across the whole of the hockey family and they cannot express their true gratitude.

Chris is hard at work on his exercise bike at STEPS where the physio’s are working a lot with his core to help with balance and his transfers. They are also working on his arms to get those stronger and are currently using FES (functional electrical stimulation), on his legs for spasms and muscle bulk.
