Match Report:
The quarter finals of the 2nd XI Cup saw the Holcombe team take on the Students from Loughborough University. The much changed side, which included three young players from the Clubs 4th XI, match the visitors in the first half. The students scored in the 16th minute but Holcombe came straight back at them and Greg Gandy scored a great goal to bring the teams level three minutes later. Unfortunately the visitors went straight up the pitch and scored to give them their one goal advantage. Both teams had chances but the score stayed 1-2 up till half-time.
The second half was only two minutes old when the students put the ball in the net again to make it 1-3. Holcombe at no time dropped their heads and kept battling, but the superior fitness of the visitors took its toll and they scored in the 57th and 59th minutes. Still Holcombe battled but were unable to find the net again and the game ended with Loughborough winning 5-1.
